Unemployment insurance is designed to provide a replacement income in the event of involuntary unemployment whilst resident in the UK.

More importantly to most people, what does it not do? Below you will find a list of the most common circumstances where the policy may not pay out. Please read these very carefully. If you require clarification, please call us.

  • initial exclusion period. Some policies will not pay out if the claim occurs within the first 6 months of the policy. Our recommended plans have an initial exclusion period from only 30 days.
  • your unemployment (i.e. dismissal) occurs as a result of your misconduct, breach of contract or criminal offence. This still applies if you fail an initial probationary period.
  • your unemployment occurs while you are away from the European Union (EU) for a period, intended by you, to be more than 90 consecutive days.
  • you are receiving payment in lieu of notice.
  • you have not been in continuous employment for at least 6 months, prior to the insurance commencing.

The above points account for the vast majority of claim disputes, however, if you have any queries please do not hesitate to contact us. Below you will find a more comprehensive overview of what the policy will / will not do.
